Sheldon’s CFL Power Rankings

  1. Montreal Alouettes (Last Rank: 1)
The Alouettes were able to weather the storm that was the Tommy Stevens Show and came back to beat the Stamps in the last minute of the game. Great teams find a way. They host the Argos in week
    six.
  1. Saskatchewan Roughriders (Last Rank: 2)
Shea Patterson is 1-0 as a CFL starter. He may have started slow, but the Riders dominating defense forced five turnovers and yet again saved their best football for the fourth quarter. This team does not quit but faces their toughest test in week six when they head to the west coast to face the Lions.

  2. BC Lions (Last Rank: 3)
BC went into the donut box and did exactly what everyone thought they would do. They punished a winless team. Big Play VA was unstoppable and found Justin McInnis, William Stanback and
Alexander Hollins at will. While an impressive victory, nothing surprising happened. We will find out which team is more powerful this week when the Riders come to town.

  3. Toronto Argonauts (Last Rank: 4)
The Argos had a tough trip to Mosaic Stadium where they turned the ball over five times and could not get anything going on offense until Nick Arbuckle came into the game late in the fourth quarter. Have teams figured out Cam Dukes? It does not get any easier for them as they head to La Belle Province to face the Alouettes and could lose the season series already if they are not able to escape with a win.

  4. Calgary Stampeders (Last Rank: 5)
If you are a Stamps fan, you are thankful for Tommy Stevens. He had 2 TDs and was the main reason the Stamps were even in their game against the Als. Unfortunately, they were playing the Als, and the reigning champions were able to claw back and win. Lucky for them, they head to Winnipeg this weekend. But they will need more from Jake Maier to get back to the win column.
  1. Ottawa REDBLACKS (Last Rank: 6)
The REDBLACKS had a painful visit to Princess Auto Stadium and lost their QB1 Dru Brown after taking a forearm to the head as he was sliding in the first half. This game was a throwback to the hard hitting, rushing attack of the 50s but in the end, Winnipeg was able to beat them. They head west to face the winless Edmonton Elks this week.

  2. Edmonton Elks (Last Rank: 7)
The Elks were on bye but have added DL Shawn Oakman and LB Derrick Moncrief. Will the defense finally be able to limit explosive plays from the opposing offense? Hopefully for Elks fans, MBT and Eugene Lewis can get on the same page. They host the REDBLACKS in week six.

  3. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Last Rank: 9)
Owen has left the building, insert Juan. The Bombers were able to beat the REDBLACKS to finally get a win. We will have to see if QB Zach Collaros will be out long term because Chris Streveler is still
struggling to complete passes and if you can shut him down at the line of scrimmage, Juan could be staying for another week.

  4. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Last Rank: 8)
A very rough outing for the Ticats. The defense was torched all night by Vernon Adams and even though they were able to get some points and make it seem closer, they head to the bye week with a lot of questions. Will we see any major changes?
