Sheldon’s Top Performers – Week 2

Offense:

  1. Chris Streveler

I don’t think even the most die-hard Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans would have predicted that the offense would look as good as it did on Thursday night without Zach Collaros behind centre. Chris was able to show command of the pocket and took his time to hit his receivers in stride. He was 15/24 for 246 yards and 3 TDs and one INT. Bomber fans can rest easy if something happens to QB1 this season as they look to get over the Grey Cup hump at home.

  2. Matthew Peterson

Sticking in Winnipeg, Peterson was thrust into action after the reigning (AND DEFENDING! Sorry, I always hear Paul Heyman in my head) MOP and MOC Brady Oliveira was injured in the 1st quarter after an impressive 2 carries for 49 yards. The Bombers offense didn’t skip a beat as Peterson was able to get 130 yards on 23 carries with 1 TD. With the return timeline for Oliveira uncertain, Peterson looks to be the guy going forward at RB for the Bombers.

  3. KeeSean Johnson

Admittedly there are a couple other receivers who could be in this spot (like a Bomber sweep with Keric Wheatfall, or Jalen Philpot) I went with KeeSean just because of his ability (with Trevor Harris’ help of course) to takeover the game in the 4th quarter and end up with 8 receptions on 11 targets for 124 yards and one TD in the Riders victory over the Ticats. Sam Emilus seemed to be the #1 target for Harris last week and early on in this game, but Johnson and Harris were able to rekindle the chemistry they had to finish off the season last year.

Defense/Special Teams:

  1. Adrian Greene

The Stamps defense made it a tough day at the office for the 2024 Grey Cup MVP Nick Arbuckle. Attributing to that specifically was Stampeders DB Adrian Green who had 2 interceptions in the 2nd quarter, one of which was returned 40 yards to the house for a pick six. He also finished the game with 2 tackles.

  2. Jose Maltos

No one had a better week kicking the ball than Jose Maltos. Not only was he 100% on converting Montreal’s three majors, but he was also 6/6 on his field goal attempts with a long of 50. With the Alouettes high powered offense, if Maltos can keep his accuracy (and health) up, he will undoubtedly be one of the league’s leaders in scoring.

  3. Rolan Milligan

Last years MODP Rolan Milligan was able to shake off an “upper body injury” (most likely a stinger or concussion) in week one to bounce back with another top tier performance in week two. Teams are already afraid to throw to him, so his stat line of 1 tackle doesn’t jump off the page at you, but his Pick 6 to help seal the Riders victory does. You could argue that teammate Marcus Sayles deserves the nod with 9 tackles, but tackles don’t put points on the board.
