Sheldon’s Top Performers – Week 4

Offense:

  1. Zach Collaros
Collaros was surgical in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers victory over the Edmonton Elks in front of another sell out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium. He went 25/30 for 332 yards and 3 TDs, while also adding a 13-yard rushing TD. As the Bombers head west to Calgary to face the Stampeders in the inaugural Stampede Bowl, will Zach be able to have another big game?

  2. AJ Ouellette
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have become the best rushing team in the CFL. While AJ Ouellette has certainly become the face of the Riders rushing attack, he’s quick to put the praises on the offensive line and receivers for their blocking. In the win against the BC Lions, Ouellette had 23 carries for 139 yards and 1 TD. Surprisingly this was AJ’s first 100-yard rushing game as a member of the Riders and he rides into the bye week leading the CFL in rushing yards with 347 yards on 56 carries for an impressive 6.2 yard average.

  3. Nic Demski
Nic Demski has quietly become one of the premier Canadian receivers in the CFL. Surely having a QB like Zach Collaros throwing him the ball has helped, but he made a couple amazing catches in the Bombers dominating win against the Elks. He had 5 catches on 7 targets for 97 yards but more importantly 2 TDs, including a 60 yarder. Like Zach, Nic looks to throw on the cowboy hat to try to help Winnipeg beat Calgary for the Stampede Bowl trophy.

Defense / Special Teams:

  1. Derek Slywka
The rookie had a heck of a game against the REDBLACKS. While only recording 2 tackles, Derek had 2 huge plays helping the Toronto Argonauts get the win in the Nation’s Capital. First, he recovered a Kalil Pimpleton fumble and returned it 105 yards for a touchdown and then followed that up with a 120-yard touchdown return off a 28 yard Lewis Ward field goal that was blocked by Anthony Lanier II. Slywka and the Argos host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats next week at BMO Field.

  2. Tevaughn Campbell
Not often is the TSN turning point of a CFL game the last play of the 1st half, but that was the case when Tevaughn Campbell intercepted a wide Jeremiah Masoli pass and returned it 89 yards for a touchdown. This not only ignited the fans at Mosaic Stadium, it took away a sure Shawn Whyte field goal if he had the chance. Campbell also added 3 tackles but unfortunately would leave the game with a groin injury. Hopefully the bye week will give him enough time to recover.

  3. Brett Lauther
After a couple of rough games for the Truro, Nova Scotia product, Brett Lauther was back to form in the Riders victory over the BC Lions. Brett was 5/5 on field goals with a long of 48 yards and was perfect on his converts as well. Rider fans are hoping that Big Money Brett is back after bouncing back from his seemingly annual slump. He heads into the bye week on a high.
